Class descriptions
Our early childhood music classes are designed to provide children from birth through age seven and their caregivers with a rich musical experience. Classes are play-based and we cultivate a relaxed environment so children and adults can interact with music in a way that is comfortable for them. Classes include a wide variety of singing, rhythmic, and movement activities using simple age-appropriate props and instruments. Classes will be led by Professor Adrienne Rodriguez who has extensive training and experience teaching early childhood music classes.
Music Play (ages Birth – 3)
Caregiver and Child
This class is designed to keep toddlers engaged through playful and active musical experiences along with their caregiver. Participants will explore many of the same musical concepts as our infant class but with an increased focus on children’s participation and growing independence. Class activities include singing, rhymes, movement, and simple props and instruments for both caregivers and children to enjoy. Come explore how children can learn and grow musically through play!
Music Makers (ages 3 – 5)
Caregiver and Child
Children in this class will continue to develop music skills through play-based music learning. This class is designed for caregivers and children to experience music through singing, playing instruments, listening, and moving to music. Children will be given opportunities to engage in some activities independently and to contribute ideas to class while still including the support of a parent or caregiver.
The Susquehanna University Music Preparatory Program offers private lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Whether you are seeking instruction for your child or grandchild, a college student wishing to improve their skills for personal enjoyment or in preparation for ensemble participation and more serious study with SU faculty, or you’re an adult who is returning to an instrument or fulfilling a life-long wish to play an instrument, we can pair you with a teacher to help achieve your goals. Private weekly lessons are taught by Susquehanna students who have been recommended by their private teachers. Instructor availability may vary from semester to semester.
In-person lessons take place in the Cunningham Center for Music and Art on the campus of Susquehanna University. Submit a Private Lesson Registration form to be connected with an instructor. Questions should be sent to the Prep Program Coordinator at musicprep@rahpouyanschool.com.
